What to expect

What to expect at your first visit.

Most times, the first appointment is the longest  - and so we encourage you to complete the new patient forms as much as possible - it gives us a snapshot of what  your concerns are and helps us "get down to business".

Bring your driver license and form of payment (insurance card if we accept your insurance) with you.

If you are being seen by telehealth, please make efforts to obtain your weight, height, blood pressure, pulse and measure your abdominal girth before your appointment if possible - we will perform these for you if your appointment is in-person.

Arrive to our waiting room, whether it be in-person at our office or in our virtual patient waiting room. Please be 30 minutes early for your first appointment. If you have a same day appointment, we may ask that you come in 45 minutes early to complete all you paperwork at once.

Upon arrival to either of our waiting rooms, you will be greeted by our staff  who will prepare you for your visit with the clinician. (meanwhile, our providers will be preparing to see you).

Next, you and the clinician will meet to discuss your  mental health concerns and your physical health - how you feel emotionally is significantly influenced by your biological factors. You and your clinician will then start to formulate a plan based upon the findings  - whether to start therapy, medications, or medications with therapy.  Then your follow up appointment will be scheduled based upon those treatment decisions.

Your follow up appointments are usually not as long since we have a good base to start from. They can be as short as 15 minutes (for simple medication refills and monitoring) to one hour (or more in crisis if needed). Most follow up appointments are about 30 minutes for medications and 45 to 60 minutes for therapy.

You should consider your first appointment an introduction for you and your provider. For any therapist, a dynamic therapeutic relationship can only be developed over time. That's why we - if you should need psychiatric medication management only - encourage you to stay with your current therapist if you are satisfied with them.

If you are prescribed medications, your provider will also formulate a plan on starting, monitoring, and adjusting (as needed) your medications.

Always, if you have any concerns about your treatment or the therapeutic process, let us know. We want our clients to be satisfied.
