About Insight Behavioral Health Associates
Est. 2017

The Short Answer:

Insight Behavioral Health Associates (Insight or IBHA) provides psychiatric evaluations for the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders that include: anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, bipolar (manic/depressive), personality, psychosomatic, and dissociative disorders.

Treatments include psychiatric medication initiation and management with psychotherapy as guided through shared decision making, with the patient, after discussing treatment options. We also perform genetic testing to help guide our patient's psychiatric medication selection if indicated (you must meet certain conditions for insurance coverage).

We prefer in-office / in-person appointments (especially for the first appointment) but have a unique telehealth platform that is very easy to use for subsequent telehealth visits (or initial appointments in special circumstances).

Although we are "lifespan" providers, we currently only treat patients 18 and over (if we decide to accept pediatric patients - we will make it known on our website).

We do not prescribe products with buprenorphine (Zubsolv, Subutex, or suboxone) for opioid use disorders.

The Long answer:

Who we are:

Insight Behavioral Health Associates, established in 2017 but new to Danville, is an intimate group of behavioral health clinicians who have practiced for many years and are experts within their field. They have been carefully selected and invited to work for IBHA because of their work experience and personal dedication to providing excellent patient /client care. Our clinicians will have at least five years of behavioral health work experience before they can become members of the IBHA group. This allows us to maintain the quality of our care and patient satisfaction - but the real benefit goes to our patients - the confidence in knowing that their mental health needs can be identified and addressed through our experienced and qualified providers.

What we do:

As described above, IBHA provides psychiatric evaluations for the purposes of diagnosing and treating mental health disorders using a comprehensive holistic psychosocial and biomedical approach. We are primarily geared toward psychiatric medication initiation and/or management, while providing psychotherapy / counseling as determined through the assessment and the patient's shared decision making. Our experience allows us to confidently diagnose and treat behavioral /mental health disorders. We also have an extremely well qualified counselor/therapist who is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for those with PTSD or traumatic experiences.

Our providers also have extensive experience in treating substance use disorders that are often associated with the mental health problems described above. We often work with medication assisted therapy (MAT) providers as experts in treating the comorbidities associated with alcohol and substance abuse. We do not prescribe Buprenorphine products but instead prescribe the appropriate psychiatric medications to support abstinence and / or improved outcomes.

We also enjoy working with other mental health professionals who are open to collaboration. We know the value and importance of every member in the professional medical and mental health provider spectrum, including case workers and mental health associates.

If you have an existing counselor and just need a psychiatric medication evaluation with psychiatric medication management - then we are here for you and your counselor if they should have questions or want to collaborate in your treatment.

We do not want you to leave your counselor or therapist if you are satisfied with them - a good "fit" with a counselor is very hard to find.

How we like to operate and why we are different:

While IBHA has been using telehealth for more than 4 years (2 years before the pandemic), we also recognize the limitations of telehealth in psychiatry for certain patients. That is one reason why we expanded to have a physical office space - to fill in the gaps missing through telehealth services alone. Those gaps are also why we prefer the first appointment be in-person if possible.

Other advantages to Insight Behavioral Health Associates include:

Privacy - With a smaller group practice comes reduced access to your records and we are judiciously protective of your mental health and substance abuse records - they are not part of a larger or spread-out healthcare organization. (note: if you use health insurance, we do not have control over insurance requirements in accessing your protected health information (PHI). Diagnostic codes must be sent to the pharmacy with medication orders in order for medications to be approved for payment by insurance).

Provider autonomy - The number one predictor for success in behavioral health is the therapeutic relationship between the client and their clinician. Our staff have control over their schedules and how they practice - giving them the time and space needed, for them and their clients, to form those therapeutic relationships that matter.

There are several other conveniences and advantages to discover about Insight Behavioral Health Associates, please spend some time looking around our website to learn more - and of course, contact us if you have any questions.
